Enable Infrastructure Expertly Install Three Suffolk Level Crossings
8 April 2021
Enable Infrastructure (formerly known as BCM Construction) has completed the Civils Construction works on three level crossings in Woodbridge, Suffolk.
Amey Rail was contracted by Network Rail to upgrade equipment at the level crossings to make them safer for the public and Enable Infrastructure was responsible to deliver the Civils Construction scope of works on behalf of Amey Rail.
At Haywards and Ferry Lane crossings, full barriers have been installed to cover both sides of the road while at Jetty Avenue, the crossing now has an audible warning along with red and green lights.
Enable Infrastructure were responsible for breaking out and excavating the existing level crossings, installation of the new barrier and road light (wigwag) bases, installation of precast bases for level crossing equipment, new tarmac, perimeter palisade fencing and installation of anti-trespass guarding.
Much of the works were completed during a possession on the line in Week 49 which required interfacing and collaboration between Network Rail, Amey Rail and Enable Infrastructure as well as other contractors on site. Based on our expertise, Enable Infrastructure was also able to remove non-critical works away from the possession and complete using other methods of safety whilst keeping the railway running.
After completing the works, members of the local Deben Yacht Club who regularly use the crossing at Jetty Avenue praised the high quality finish of the works. They were very happy to see that safety was now improved on the crossing.
Following the successful completion of these works, Enable Infrastructure is looking to support contractors in future works across the Network Rail infrastructure including level crossing renewals and enhancements.
